GIF help needed

I'm in the process of updating my banner ad for this website. I'm wanting to have several frames and most have photographic images that, obviously as an artist, need to show up in detail to display my work. I also have a really cool background that I made from scratch in PS. But when I went to make the GIF the colors where greatly reduced (so it looks posterized) and now it looks like crap. I have some sketchy idea of GIFs having fewer colors than a JPEG, but obviously there has to be...

I don't know how many of you old farts use Wikipedia (Just kidding *holds hands up in self defense as he is faced with an onslaught of attacks*), but I use it for practically every history assignment and it's usually my #1 resource.

I don't edit stuff too much but I love reading documents.

Have your seen this? It's a traditional writers dream come true. I've joked in the past that wouldn't it be great if you could take your scribbled out fan fic and shove it in the back of the computer and it would all be typed out? This is pretty darn close. You write with the pen computer and the software converts it to text that can be used for multi-purpose applications. So cool!
